Vacant plots of land and/or land that is not currently being developed can attract illegal fly tipping. Due to high disposal fees at legal waste facilities, there has been a marked increase in illegal waste sites springing up overnight offering quick and cheap disposal of waste. This is not beneficial for the landowners who may well be left to pick up the bill for the clearance of what could amount to a great many tonnes of material.
There have also been cases of these illegal sites being used to dispose of hazardous material, sending the owner’s clearance bill through the roof.
